Digitalization in Events: from backstage to stage

October 28, 2019Spain IncomingConventions and Corporate Meetings, Creative, Team BuildingNo Comments

The world of events is being digitized (in case you hadn’t noticed), but we’re not just talking about organizational processes, no. The digital tendencies have surpassed the backstage barrier to get directly into the staging and management of the event itself. And according to the studies, this has only just begun.

A few years ago, the digital era came to events and our way of organizing them, turning the iPad into a daily work tool or making digital invitations an alternative to paper ones. Everything was new and people so fascinated by the new possibilities of the digital world that we could not imagine what was yet to come…until it arrived. Here are the craziest digital trends that you can now incorporate into your event:

Robots as part of staff

Robots welcoming you at the event, chatting with attendees and escorting them to their seats. A virtual assistant indicating ‘where the bathroom is’ or ‘what time this event ends’ on the spot. Robotics and artificial intelligence have become part of the staff and can now help (and surprise) your guests.

Walls in motion

Imagine a diaphanous venue, with high walls, without adornments, bordering on dullness. Now imagine several state-of-the-art projectors giving life to moving images on their walls, accompanied by exciting music and sound effects… better, right? The video mapping that has its origin in the famous representations of the Chinese shadows of the Han dynasty has arrived with force and everything indicates that it will remain for a long time in our events due to its unique artistic effect that wins by a landslide to the decoration with furniture, paper or plants.

The digital gastronomy

There is no longer any need to reserve video mapping for the plenary room, you can also take it to the table! Overcome by the furore for the experiential cuisine that surprised everyone and now hardly surprises, the trend in gastronomy points to the Immersive Dinning Experience: dim light, tables projected with beautiful images and shapes thanks to the most powerful technology, different themes depending on the dish in front of us, divided by countries, flavours or colours … the possibilities are endless and the emotion indescribable.

Forget the menu on the paper

To the digital experience at the table is now added the ‘star of the crown’: the holograms. If you are looking at the menu and you have doubts about a dish, you can have a virtual version of those ‘rigattoni al forno’ in front of your eyes, thanks to holograms, an advanced photography technique that creates three-dimensional images that look so real that it will make you doubt whether what you’re living is a dream.

It´s showtime

If one of your speakers can’t make it to the event, don’t worry: thanks to the holograms the audience will be able to visualize her/him in the form of ‘moving light’ so that it looks almost real. Holography is in fashion and, if your budget allows, you can surprise guests with spectacular animations: a giant whale crossing the venue, dancers doing acrobatics while hanging from the ceiling without really being there, an erupting volcano in the middle of the room…

The digital world is now part of the event. Some of those elements result in quite a logistical challenge and not all are suitable for all budgets but they have one thing in common: they turn the event into an unforgettable experience for your guests, one they want to tell someone about, one that will spread on your social networks, one they will never forget.

Do you dare to use one of them at your next event?
