Recently our colleague Eva had the chance to travel to Valladolid, located in the heart of the province of Castilla y León, in order to discover a new destination for our incoming groups and see all the possibilities the city and its surroundings have to offer.
Valladolid is located at the river Duero in the province of Castilla y León, a community that stands out for its production of high quality wines, especially those of the Ribera del Duero designation of origin.
A highlight of the trip was the visit of Peñafiel, a small town located approximately 40 minutes by bus from Valladolid. Peñafiel is famous for its Castle, which accommodates the Provincial Wine Museum. The visitors can enjoy the views from above over the beautiful, flat landscape. Especially in September and October the trees shine in their most stunning colors. A must-see in this area is the Bodega Abadía de Retuerta, that enchants its visitors with its delicious wine, its exquisite cuisine and extensive vineyards. During a dynamic visit by Jeep, you will learn all about the different types of grapes and the winemaking progress. Those visitors who decide to stay will be warmly welcomed at the luxurious 5* hotel Abadía Retuerta LeDomaine, located in the old hostelry of the monastery. The hotel counts with a total of 27 double rooms and 3 suites with privileged views of the vineyards ̶ a dream place in the heart of the Duero Valley.

Nearby, you can find another enchanting 5* hotel and Spa resort, the Castilla Termal Monasterio de Valbuena, located in one of the best preserved Cistercian Monasteries in Europe. The building dates from the 12th century and has been converted into an exclusive resort in the “Golden Mile” of the Ribera del Duero with 79 luxurious rooms.
Apart from the rich history and the exquisite wines and cuisine, Valladolid offers a wide range of possibilities to celebrate any kind of event, for example the Centro Cultural Miguel Delibes, the spacious Fairgrounds (Feria), or the Museum Patio Herreriano of Spanish Contemporary Art. Moreover, Valladolid hosts an international airport, one of the four airports in the province of Castilla y León. Valladolid is also connected to the High Speed Railway with regular trains to Madrid, Barcelona, Santander and Bilbao, among others.
It is a great destination, especially for wine, food and history loving groups.
